This is my first mix in over 13 years! Although I took a long break, the passion remains. This is a mix of old and new, and features some live mashups. I chose to stay on the slower side of House, between 117 and 120 BPM, and a couple of downtempo tunes to start with.

Masterful remake of Bob James’s “Nautilus", with Peter Daou and Dave Darlington on the Rhodes and keyboards, Vidal Davis on the drums, and strings arranged and conducted by Vincent Montana, Jr.

This particular version, with the clean intro and outro, is only available on the 6x12" box set on Talkin’ Loud. A must-have for MAW fans.

I first discovered Laurindo Almeida via his album with Stan Getz, which I found at the Austin Record Convention several years ago. The first track on that album is one of my favorites, and you can listen to it on Monfresh Sessions #14.

Earlier this week, I looked up Laurindo Almeida on YouTube and came across this great interpretation of Debussy’s piece. It’s from the 1979 album "Chamber Jazz” on Concord Jazz.
